An u16 boys match in the cup. It’s a muddy pitch and the players struggle to string two passes together. But it’s a fairly mild mannered affair…. Until the 37th minute, when the away team no 14 decides to call the assistant referee a “cheat” and a “f***ing t**t”. I’m feeling kind so I just sin bin him, though a red would have been justified. Twenty minutes into the second player, no 14 is about to substituted when he turns, claps me and says “you’ve had a s**t game.” An easy red card and the home team go on to win 4-1. At the end of the match, you might expect the away coach to apologise or at least be a little embarrassed. But no, he insists the player was provoked and didn’t deserve the first yellow. I listen to him for a bit, but get tired after a couple of minutes of listening to his nonsense. So think him for his feedback and head off.
